The Berkeley 10 km

2011

Monday 16th May at 19:30

Race information:

The Course:

The course is largely flat and consists of an outward leg of about 1 km, two laps of 4 km each and a return to the finish. The race is run on quiet, pleasant country lanes. The course touches the outskirts of Berkeley Village and passes the rear of the famous castle. The course has been accurately measured and certified.

The start is outside the former Berkeley Power Station, and the finish is outside the Nuclear Sports and Social Club.

How to get there:

Berkeley is midway between Bristol and Gloucester on the banks of the river Severn. From the A38 (accessed to the north or south from junctions 13 or 14 of the M5 respectively) follow signs to Berkeley. Carry straight on through the village, and the Sports & Social Club is about a mile further on next to the remaining Power Station buildings.

Facilities:

Showers and changing rooms are available at the Sports & Social Club. Unfortunately, the ladies' changing rooms are very small, and hot water in both is likely to be available only to the fastest runners. A large gym area is available before and after the race.

St. Johns first aiders will be in attendance at the finish.

The bar facilities of the club are available to runners and their guests. (Cheap beer!). Hot food can be purchased. There is a smal childrens' play area outside, so bring the family!

What's on offer:

A free beer is available to all finishers.

Prizes will be awarded in the usual categories, including:

Results below are final (around fourth) draft. A small number of times were not properly recorded and have been inserted with the aid of guesswork. As a result, times around positions 90 - 100 or so might be out by a few seconds (a large number of runners arrived simultaneously at this point). Earlier positions are believed to be OK. Outstanding problems are a couple of entrants whose details were not recorded and doubtless a few other bits and pieces that we don't know about yet. Unless anything important comes up, these results will be considered final.

Not Many People Know That

Incidentally, the derogatory term "Berk" derives from a contraction of the rhyming slang "Berkeley Hunt".
